HONDA CAR SERVICE
As any owner of a Civic, Prelude, Accord or Vtec knows, a regular Honda service is essential to keep your car running smoothly. Honda's are known for being solid, reliable and well-running vehicles; however it is still important to have regular services and to stick to your car service schedule in order to keep it running at its optimum level of performance. 2009 Accord and Jazz models have built-in indicators to remind you of when its next service is due, however those driving earlier models will need to consult their handbooks to know when their car is due for its next service.
Honda maintenance plans vary depending on the model of your Honda. Generally, your first service will be between 10,000 and 15,000 kilometres depending on your model – and your handbook will give you the exact mileage your particular model will require its service. After this, you will need to take your Honda into a reliable Honda auto repair centre at regular intervals as per the instructions in your handbook. It is also very important to keep your Honda in good working order in between services. A few vital but simple checks can save you plenty of time, energy and money if problems are caught early – here are some of the most common examples:
Oil should be checked and topped up if needed every month or so. This keeps engine parts lubricated, and ensures that your Honda runs at its peak performance.
Keep your brakes in good condition with regular checks of your brake fluid level. While the winter is almost behind us, there is still plenty of wet weather and any problems with your Honda’s brakes could be catastrophic on South Africa’s busy roads.
Hondas are built for speed and reliability, but nevertheless, engines can easily overheat if coolant levels aren’t checked. If you notice that your Honda engine is losing coolant, have it checked. Loss of engine coolant is a sign of a leak and waiting with the repair will result in further damage.
So ensure that you keep your Honda in the best possible condition – regardless of what model you drive, it will perform best for you if you stick to your service plan properly. Treat it properly and your Honda engine and other car parts will be running smoothly for years to come.
